Nutria

Nutria are large aquatic rodents. They are between 15 and 20 lbs when full grown. They were introduced into North America for the fur trade. When the fur trade ceased to be profitable, many nutria farms released their animals into the wild. They have since made themselves very comfortable and keep multiplying. They can have 2 litters and be pregnant with a 3rd in a year’s time. Litters can contain as many as 15, however 4-6 is the average.

Nutria can become very aggressive. It is recommended that you keep animals and small children away from them. There are many areas around town where people like to feed them and this can pose a real problem. The more comfortable they become with human interaction, the less fearful they are and this can lead to attacks.

If you have a nutria problem, we recommend you seek the assistance of a professional Wildlife Control Operator.
